Reference art work : Futurism

A modern art movement. Originated in Italy. Early 20th century.

Potrays. The
Dynamic character of 20th century life. Celebration of the machine age. Glorifying of war.

Peak of the movement - 1909.
the Existence of the first Futurist Manifesto

"Sing the love of danger, the habit of energy and boldness."

by
Filippo Marinetti

The Futurists aggravate society. breakaway from restrictions. rebel against harmony. glorifies danger and violence. applause originality. "however daring, however violent".
"the smear of madness".

Foundations
Dynamic energy. Action. Heroism. Machine.
Speed. Technology. Modernity.

1911 - fused with Cubism
'cause cubism provided the means to analyze energy and express dynamism in paintings.

Influenced other 20th century art movements.
Art deco. VorticismSurrealismDadaism .

Important artworks - i like them! :)

Abstract Speed + Sound
Giacomo Balla, 1913-14

The artist I have chosen is
Giacomo Balla
18 July 1871 - 1 March 1958.
Italian painter.
Age 20, study painting and exhibited his previous art works.
Influenced by Filippo Marinetti.
Style - light, movement, speed.

Reason for choosing him: His artwork speaks!

Giacomo Balla. Speeding Automobile. 1912
Speeding Automobile
Giacomo Balla, 1912
Oil on wood.

I find all of Giacomo's arts speak just what the title says.

In this masterpiece, the black shades gives a sense relating to automobile. The light shades in its different direction speaks of speed, like the wind that swooshes pass.

This art itself is as if a race is going on with the marks of tyres drifting, the burning of lubricant oil and the wind of speed.

Oil on canvas.

Cubism is integrated here. Although the basic design is simple, yet through the repetition of the pattern, which symbolizes a wheel, using cubism method, it clearly depicts speed, as if the wheel is rolling fast.

This looks like the car has just passed by so fast that all you see is just a reflection of its reflection.

Abstract Speed - The Car has Passed

Oil on canvas.

Giacomo Balla: Plastic Construction of Noise and Speed, 1915
Plastic Construction of Noise and Speed
Giacomo Balla, 1915
Polymer construction.

This one here, made out of matter, is gorgeous! The acute lines, the shape it stands out and the whole look is simple yet elegant!

Noise is depicted through the vertical standing matter. Speed is seen with the smoothness and shininess of its texture, and the flow from the pyramid-like shape.

Elements of Design Analysis

Reference art work : Space Art

Visualizing. Imagining. To infinity and beyond.

Outer space - the source of inspiration. Appreciates the infinite variety and vastness surrounding us. Expands the vision of humanity. Some space artists work with space scientist / engineers to  be inspired.

Some worked with the rocket field in visualizing space exploration proposals. This helped spread the idea of going outer space to more audience.

Reference art work : Geometric Abstraction

One kind of Abstract art. Started out in the 19th century. Fundamental characteristics evolved from Cubism -  abstract space, flat, constructional elements. Geometric forms in nonillusionistic space combined into nonobjective compositions.

Not just an art but can be also for decorative motifs in religion, for example: click here >>> sacred geometry.

Takes on geometric elements -  point and line. Simple geometry forms. Flat picture. According to Wassily Kandinsky, the way each point, lines and shapes is produced speaks.

Became different stylistic expressions in different countries.

Broadway Boogie Woogie
Piet Mondrian, 1942-43

Holland

Total geometric. Pure primary colors. No perspective. Rectangular grid. Rigorous composition,

producing nonobjective forms floating in white structured space.

Achieving the "absolute", "4th dimension".,

France (1920) - as foundation of Art Deco

geometric forms with purpose: decorative, applied, architecture.

Using the principle of geometric form, it is no surprise that soon it is integrated into architecture.

CONCEPTual vs PERCEPTual Arts I

What is conceptual art and perceptual art about?

The answer lies within the title itself.

CONCEPTual vs PERCEPTual Arts II

CONCEPTual art is about
... concepts
... functions
... intriguing the mind
... starting out from ideas
... drawing what you want
... asking why is it done the way it is
... thinking

Examples:
"Antelope Headdress"
The embodiments of an antelope's power and grace.
The Pencil Story
Abstract Art - New Process
"Energy"

PERCEPTual art is about
... perceiving
... aesthetic
... pleasure of the eye
... drawing what you see
... expressing what you feel
... going free
